Red Grease
This piece, entitled Red Grease, was created by Jim Dine in 1984. The medium is oil stick, pastel, and charcoal. I chose this piece because Jim Dine is one of my favorite artists, however looking at this piece I wouldn't have even guessed it was one of his. The majority of Dine's works involve hearts, tools, or the human figure obviously. Yet in this picture, none of those things pop out at me. I like how both sides of this piece appear to be somewhat symmetrical, the main difference being in the colors used. I like Dine's use of blue as the main color as well as red and green as an accent against the blue. I feel that this piece is one of his better ones and I wish it was more known.
