While researching Kathe Kollwitz I noticed all of her pieces of artwork showed figures of faces with intense emotion on their faces. The drawing I chose was a piece she did in 1903 an etching. The piece is called Woman with Dead Child. The picture is of a seated, cross-legged, naked woman olds the body of a child. All though this drawing at first is difficult to see, you can see the emotion through the eyebrows on the woman’s face. This etching was one of a series of drawings, charcoals, and etchings titled “Woman with Dead Child” produced in 1903. The series of work was associated with “Pieta” Mary mourning her son.
